Final Note -- Surf Tripping 2012

We surfed 8 beaches in 4 days...did a little sight seeing...ate some great food...

Let's do it again next year...

Aloha...

Time to eat at Mel's Diner and head home...

As you leave the Outer Banks of NC...you have to eat at Mel's...great american food...especially if you have a 3-4 hour ride home...

Leaving KDH...

As we pulled away from KDH...within 5 minutes Kyle was asleep...Sam was ready to sleep and truthfully...I needed a 5 hour energy...I was tired...after you see the roads surrounded by sand or the bridges surrounded by water for as long as we did for these 4 days...you get tired....

Surf Love

As we left KDH...my mind must have played a trick on me...I thought the sign said "SURF LOVE" but obviuosly it says Sea Kove...oh well...cool picture anyway...

Avalon Pier

The phrase "you should have been here yesterday" may have applied to this day...while we had waves...it was a little flat...but....you work with what you got so we surfed!!!

Welcome to Kill Devil Hills, NC (8/14)

We drove north about an hour to Kill Devil Hills, NC to surf the world famous Avalon Pier...

Rodanthe KOA (night of 8/13 and morning of 8/14)

So we left Avon, NC and headed on to Rodanthe, NC to stay at the KOA wiped out by last years Hurricane Irene...we had a little cabin to stay the night in...as you can see by the 2nd picture from the top...the flood line is just about as tall as Paul and Kyle. Third picture up is Bugsy trying to put away his air mattress...these things can be complicated...

KOA was nice but still needs a lot of work so beware West Nile Virus there...standing water everywhere...

Breakfast at Liberty Gas Station and a quick trip to Rodanthe Surf Shop...and on the road to Kill Devil Hills...another day of surfing (and the last stop of our surf trip)...

Avon Surf Shop

After leaving Cape Hatteras, we stopped at Avon Surf Shop....we met Jennifer Harmon (www.avonsurfshop.com) who hand makes many of the items she sells....so between all of us...I think we bought 6 or so t-shirts that Jennifer had freshly made...how often can you go to someone's shop and get a personally designed t-shirt...I guess that shoots the theory that most things are made in China...if if thet are...In Avon...just ask for Jennifer...she'll make you something original.

Cape Hatteras -- everyone makes mistakes

So we spent the afternoon at Cape Hatteras...Kyle, Sam and Paul surfed some great waves...I tried but for the most part failed...Bugsy slept on the beach....could we have been tired??

Anyway, no one took a picture...not sure what happened here...I blame it on Kyle (joke)...

Tribute to Bruce Brown

In the Spirit of Bruce Brown and Endless Summer...we took some time to sight-see...we took a side trip to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse...truly an awesome sight...we climbed 253 (or so) steps to get to the top...it was supposedly 90 degrees inside but after 3 days of hitting multiple beaches, it felt fine to us...
